Business and Nanotechnology (OPNS-920-B)

Description:

This course counts toward the following majors: Operations.

In this course, students develop an understanding of emerging nanoscience and nanotechnology and apply these concepts to generate new business ideas and identify applications for nanotechnology with strong business fundamentals. The course provides an interactive and tutorial-based introduction to nanoscience and nanotechnology with the perspective of business considerations, intellectual property, start-up models and market research. The curriculum includes broad scientific and technological themes and their implications to society, ethics and the regulatory environment. The course also provides practical details, thematic examples, guest lectures by nanotechnology business leaders, and laboratory tours. Students are required to write a detailed term paper focusing on business aspects linked to nanoscience and nanotechnology, evaluated by a panel of leaders in the business, investment and academic communities.
